Thiophanate-methyl

Type: Fungicide

Mode of Action: Inhibition of fungal mitosis

Common Product Names: Topsin-M & Cleary 3336

What is it?

Thiophanate-methyl is a systemic fungicide, meaning it is absorbed and distributed throughout the plant's tissues. It is highly effective against a broad spectrum of fungal pathogens, including those that cause leaf spots, blights, and root rots. This fungicide is widely used in the cultivation of fruits, vegetables, ornamental plants, and turfgrass. It is valued for its long-lasting protective action and its ability to eradicate existing infections.

How does it work?

Once applied, Thiophanate-methyl is absorbed by the plant and translocated to various parts, including new growth. Inside the plant, it metabolizes into carbendazim, which is the active form that disrupts fungal mitosis. By inhibiting the formation of microtubules, it prevents the fungus from successfully dividing and spreading, thereby controlling the infection.

Benefits

  • Systemic Action: Provides internal protection to plants, ensuring thorough disease control.
  • Long-lasting Protection: Offers extended residual activity, reducing the need for frequent applications.
  • Versatility: Suitable for use in various crops and settings, from agricultural fields to home gardens and golf courses.
