What is it?

Clethodim is primarily a systemic herbicide, meaning it is absorbed by plants and translocated throughout the plant system. It is selective, targeting grass weeds without harming broadleaf crops. The primary areas of use for Clethodim are in broadleaf crop fields such as soybeans, cotton, and vegetables. The use rate of Clethodim is generally low to moderate.

How does it work?

Clethodim works by inhibiting the enzyme acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACCase) in grass weeds. This enzyme is crucial for fatty acid synthesis, which is essential for cell membrane formation and plant growth. By inhibiting ACCase, Clethodim disrupts the normal growth processes in grass weeds, leading to their death. The visible effects on weeds can usually be observed within a week or two after application, depending on the weed species and environmental conditions.
