Trinexapac-Ethyl
Type: Growth Regulator
Mode of Action: Inhibiting biosynthesis of Gibberellins
Common Product Names: Primo Maxx
What is it?
Trinexapac-ethyl is a synthetic plant growth regulator widely used in agriculture, turf management, and horticulture. It is particularly effective in managing the growth of grasses and cereals, enhancing the quality and durability of turf on golf courses, sports fields, and lawns. This active ingredient is also used in cereal crops to reduce lodging, which is the bending over of stems near the ground level.
How does it work?
When applied to plants, trinexapac-ethyl is absorbed through the leaves and transported to the growing points. By inhibiting gibberellin biosynthesis, it slows down cell elongation, resulting in shorter, thicker stems. This leads to more compact and sturdy plants with improved resistance to environmental stresses such as heavy rainfall or wind, which can cause lodging in cereal crops. In turf management, it helps maintain a dense, uniform grass surface with reduced mowing requirements.
