Tebuthiuron
Type: Herbicide
Mode of Action: Inhibiting photosynthesis
Common Product Names: Spike
What is it?
Tebuthiuron is a broad-spectrum, non-selective herbicide that is highly effective in controlling a wide range of woody plants, brush, and herbaceous weeds. It is often used in non-crop areas, rangelands, fencelines and industrial sites where total vegetation control is desired. Tebuthiuron provies preemergence residual control as well as post emergence control.
How does it work?
Tebuthiuron works by being absorbed through the roots and leaves of plants. Once inside, it disrupts the plant's ability to conduct photosynthesis by inhibiting the photosystem II complex in the chloroplasts. This inhibition prevents the plant from producing the energy required for growth and maintenance, causing it to die over time. Tebuthiuron's residual activity in the soil provides long-term control, making it effective for managing persistent and hard-to-control vegetation.
