Sodium Carbonate
Type: Herbicide / Fungicide
Mode of Action: Disruption of the cell walls of Fungi
Common Product Names: Green Clean
What is it?
Sodium carbonate (Na2CO3), also known as soda ash or washing soda, is a white, odorless, water-soluble salt. Sodium carbonate has a wide range of applications, from glass manufacturing and water softening to use as a fungicide. In the pesticide world it is used as an algaecide.
How does it work?
Sodium carbonate works by creating an alkaline environment that is inhospitable to fungal growth. When applied to plants or surfaces, it increases the pH level, which disrupts the cell walls of fungi. This disruption causes the fungal cells to collapse and die, effectively controlling and preventing further fungal infection.
