What is it?

Saflufenacil is a highly effective herbicide used to control a broad spectrum of broadleaf weeds in a variety of crops, including soybeans, corn, and cereals. How does it work?

The herbicide works by penetrating the weed’s leaves and disrupting critical processes at the cellular level. This enzyme is crucial for the synthesis of chlorophyll in plants. Specifically, saflufenacil inhibits the PPO enzyme, leading to the accumulation of protoporphyrin IX, a phototoxic molecule. In the presence of light, protoporphyrin IX generates reactive oxygen species that cause rapid cell membrane destruction. This results in the quick desiccation and death of the targeted weeds.
