What is it?

(S)-Methoprene is a synthetic chemical analog of the juvenile hormone found in insects. The compound is particularly effective against species such as mosquitoes, fleas, flies, and moths. Available in various formulations, including granules, liquids, and slow-release briquettes, (S)-Methoprene is designed for different environments, from agricultural settings to household use. Because it is not a broad-spectrum insecticide, it is generally considered safer for non-target organisms, including humans, pets, and beneficial insects like bees. Depending on the targeted insect species, results can be seen within a few weeks as the treated larvae fail to mature into adults. How does it work?

(S)-Methoprene works by disrupting the normal development process of insects. When applied, it mimics the natural juvenile hormone that insects produce during their larval stage. This hormone keeps the insect in its immature state. As long as (S)-Methoprene is present, the insect is unable to molt into its adult stage, thereby preventing reproduction. Over time, this results in a reduction of the insect population.
