Propiconazole

Type: Fungicide

Mode of Action: Inhibiting the biosynthesis of ergosterol / Disruption of fungal cell membranes

Common Product Names: Banner Maxx, Tilt, PPZ

What is it?

Propiconazole is a systemic fungicide that is absorbed by the plant and translocated through its tissues. It is known for its broad-spectrum activity, making it an effective choice for both curative and preventative treatments. Propiconazole can be applied to a variety of crops, including cereals, fruits, vegetables, turfgrass and ornamental plants. It is very commonly used in turf grass in combination with Azoxystrobin.

How does it work?

Propiconazole is rapidly absorbed by the plant and moves through its vascular system. This systemic action allows it to protect both existing and new growth from fungal infection. By inhibiting ergosterol synthesis, propiconazole disrupts the formation of the fungal cell membrane, ultimately leading to the pathogen's death. This dual action makes it suitable for both curative and preventative applications.

Benefits

  • Systemic Action: Absorbed and translocated within the plant, ensuring protection of new growth.
  • Curative and Preventative: Suitable for both treating existing infections and preventing new ones.
  • Long-Lasting Protection: Provides residual control, offering extended protection against fungal diseases.
  • Versatile Application: Can be used on a wide range of crops including cereals, fruits, vegetables, and ornamentals.
  • Quick Results: Visible results can often be seen within a few days of application.
  • Improved Plant Health: Helps in maintaining plant vigor and yield by protecting against harmful pathogens.
