Prometon

Type: Herbicide

Mode of Action: Inhibiting photosynthesis

Common Product Names: Pramitol

What is it?

Prometon is a non-selective herbicide, meaning it targets a wide variety of plant species. It is often used in non-crop areas such as industrial sites, railroads, and rights-of-way where complete vegetation control is desired. Its chemical stability allows it to remain active in the soil for an extended period, providing long-term weed control. Prometon has post emergent control is effective on weeds that are already growing. As well as pre-emergence control and can prevent the germination of seeds, making it useful for long-term vegetation control.

How does it work?

Prometon is applied to the soil, where it is absorbed by the roots of plants. Once inside the plant, it travels to the chloroplasts and inhibits photosynthesis by blocking the electron transport chain. This disruption prevents the plant from producing the energy it needs to grow, ultimately leading to its death.

Benefits

  • Long-Lasting Residual Control: Provides extended weed control, reducing the need for frequent reapplications.
  • Pre- and Post-Emergent Activity: Can be used both to control existing weeds and to prevent new ones from germinating.
