Metribuzin
Type: Herbicide
Mode of Action: Inhibiting photosynthesis in susceptible plant species
Common Product Names: Sencor & TriCor
What is it?
Metribuzin is a selective herbicide used primarily in the agriculture industry. It is particularly effective against a wide range of broadleaf and grassy weeds. Metribuzin provides both post and preemergence control. It is typically applied to the soil surface or incorporated into the soil, where it is taken up by the roots and shoots of germinating weeds.
How does it work?
Metribuzin is absorbed through the roots and foliage of plants. Once inside, it moves to the chloroplasts where it inhibits the photosystem II complex, disrupting the electron transport chain. This disruption halts the production of ATP and NADPH, essential molecules for energy and reducing power in the plant, leading to the plant's death.
