Imazethapyr
Type: Herbicide
Mode of Action: Inhibiting the enzyme acetolactate synthase (ALS)
Common Product Names: Lightning & Pursuit
What is it?
Imazethapyr is a systemic, selective herbicide that is widely used in agriculture to manage a broad spectrum of weeds. It is absorbed by both the roots and leaves of plants and translocated throughout the plant's tissues. This herbicide is particularly effective in soybean, legume, and other crop fields. Results from Imazethapyr application are typically seen within a few days to a week as the weeds cease growing and begin to die. Its selective nature allows it to target weeds without causing significant harm to the crops.
How does it work?
Imazethapyr works by interfering with the biosynthesis of essential amino acids in plants. When applied, it is absorbed through the foliage and roots of weeds, then transported throughout the plant. By inhibiting the ALS enzyme, it disrupts the production of vital amino acids necessary for plant growth, leading to the eventual death of the targeted weeds.
