Imazaquin

Type: Herbicide

Mode of Action: Inhibiting the enzyme acetolactate synthase (ALS)

Common Product Names: Image & Scepter

What is it?

Imazaquin is a selective, systemic herbicide used to control various annual and perennial broadleaf weeds and grasses. Imazaquin provides both preemergence and post emergence control of weeds. It is commonly applied in areas such as lawns, golf courses, and agricultural fields. Due to its systemic nature, Imazaquin is absorbed by the roots and foliage of plants, allowing it to move throughout the plant to exert its herbicidal effects.

How does it work?

Imazaquin works by targeting the acetohydroxyacid synthase (AHAS) enzyme in weeds. By inhibiting this enzyme, it prevents the plant from synthesizing essential amino acids needed for growth and development. This leads to the gradual starvation of the weed, causing it to die off over time. Imazaquin can be used as both a pre-emergent and post-emergent herbicide, providing flexibility in weed management strategies.

Benefits

  • Systemic Action: The herbicide is absorbed by both roots and foliage, ensuring thorough control of the target weeds.
  • Flexible Application: Can be used as both a pre-emergent and post-emergent herbicide, making it versatile for different weed management needs.
  • Long-Lasting Residual Control: Imazaquin provides residual control, helping to prevent weed regrowth for an extended period.
