Foramsulfuron

Type: Herbicide

Mode of Action: Inhibiting the enzyme acetolactate synthase (ALS)

Common Product Names: Equip, Option, & Revolver

What is it?

Foramsulfuron is a selective post-emergent herbicide used primarily in corn, turf, and some cereal crops. It belongs to the sulfonylurea family of herbicides, known for their low application rates and high efficacy. As a systemic herbicide, it is absorbed through the foliage and roots, translocating throughout the plant to exert its herbicidal action.

How does it work?

Once applied, foramsulfuron is absorbed by the leaves and roots of the target weeds. It then moves through the plant's vascular system to the growing points, where it inhibits the ALS enzyme. This enzyme is necessary for the synthesis of branched-chain amino acids, such as valine, leucine, and isoleucine. Without these amino acids, protein synthesis and cell division are disrupted, causing the weed to stop growing and eventually die.

Benefits

  • Selective Control: Targets specific weeds without harming desirable plants.
  • Quick Results: Visible symptoms typically appear within a few days, with full weed control achieved in 2-4 weeks.
  • Systemic Action: Ensures thorough weed control by translocating throughout the plant.
