Fluazifop-P-butyl
Type: Herbicide
Mode of Action: Inhibiting the enzyme ACCase (acetyl-CoA carboxylase)
Common Product Names: Fusilade II & Fusilade DX
What is it?
Fluazifop-P-butyl is a selective post-emergent herbicide primarily used to control annual and perennial grass weeds in a variety of broadleaf crops, such as soybeans, cotton, and vegetables. It is absorbed by the foliage of the grass weeds and translocated throughout the plant, where it accumulates in the meristematic tissues (areas of active growth). Once there, it disrupts essential metabolic processes, ultimately killing the weed. Visible symptoms on treated grass weeds typically appear within 7-14 days after application, with complete weed control occurring within 2-4 weeks.
How does it work?
Fluazifop-P-butyl is absorbed by the leaves of target grass species. After absorption, it is translocated throughout the plant, concentrating in the actively growing regions, such as the shoot tips and root tips. By inhibiting the ACCase enzyme, it disrupts the synthesis of fatty acids, which are essential components of cell membranes and other cellular functions. This disruption leads to the cessation of growth and eventually the death of the weed.
