What is it?

Chlorantraniliprole is an anthranilic diamide insecticide developed by DuPont, now part of Corteva Agriscience. It belongs to the Group 28 of the Insecticide Resistance Action Committee (IRAC). Chlorantraniliprole is a systemic insecticide with some contact activity. It is selective, primarily targeting lepidopteran (moth and butterfly) larvae, beetles, and certain other pests. Its primary areas of use include agriculture (such as in fruit, vegetable, and cereal crops), turf management, and ornamental plant care. Typically, Chlorantraniliprole is applied at a low to moderate rate.

How does it work?

Chlorantraniliprole works by activating the ryanodine receptors in muscle cells of target pests, causing uncontrolled release of calcium ions within the cells. This disrupts muscle regulation, leading to paralysis and death. The compound is unique in its ability to target these receptors, offering a mode of action distinct from many other insecticides. Results can typically be seen within days of application, though this can vary depending on the pest and environmental conditions.
