Trifloxysulfuron-Sodium

Type: Herbicide

Mode of Action: Inhibiting the enzyme acetolactate synthase (ALS)

Common Product Names: Envoke

What is it?

Trifloxysulfuron-Sodium is a sulfonylurea herbicide known for its high efficacy in controlling a broad spectrum of grass and broadleaf weeds. It is particularly favored for use in turfgrass management, such as on golf courses, and in agricultural settings for crops like cotton. Its selective nature ensures that it targets weeds without causing significant harm to the desirable plants.

How does it work?

The herbicidal action of Trifloxysulfuron-Sodium begins when it is absorbed by the foliage and roots of the weed. Once inside the plant, it travels to the meristematic regions, where cell division and growth occur. By inhibiting the ALS enzyme, it disrupts the plant's ability to produce essential amino acids, leading to cessation of growth, chlorosis (yellowing of leaves), and ultimately plant death.

Benefits

  • Broad-Spectrum Control: It effectively manages a wide range of both grass and broadleaf weeds.
  • Selective Herbicide: It targets weeds while leaving the desirable plants relatively unharmed, making it ideal for use in turf and crop management.
  • Low Application Rates: Due to its potency, lower application rates are required, which can reduce the amount of chemical used and potentially lessen environmental impact.
