Thiamethoxam

Type: Insecticide

Mode of Action: Neonicotinoids

Common Product Names: Centric

What is it?

Thiamethoxam is a systemic insecticide, meaning it is absorbed by plants and distributed throughout their tissues. This characteristic allows it to protect the entire plant, including roots, stems, leaves, and fruits, from insect pests. It is highly effective against a broad spectrum of insects, including aphids, whiteflies, thrips, and beetles.

How does it work?

Thiamethoxam is applied to plants either through soil treatment, seed treatment, or foliar application. Once absorbed by the plant, it moves through the vascular system, providing protection against insects that feed on any part of the plant. When insects ingest or come into contact with Thiamethoxam, it disrupts their nervous system by binding to nicotinic acetylcholine receptors. This disruption leads to over-stimulation of the nerves, resulting in paralysis and death.

Benefits

  • Systemic Protection: As a systemic insecticide, it protects the entire plant, ensuring comprehensive pest control.
  • Long-Lasting Effects: Thiamethoxam provides extended protection, reducing the need for frequent applications.
  • Improved Crop Yields: By effectively controlling pests, Thiamethoxam helps in maintaining healthy crops, leading to better yields and quality.
