Potassium Phosphite
Type: Fungicide
Mode of Action: Stimulation of plant natural defenses
Common Product Names: Phiticide
What is it?
Potassium phosphite is a salt of phosphorous acid that is highly soluble in water, making it easy to apply as a foliar spray or soil drench. Primarily used as a post-emergent treatment in agriculture, it is favored in agriculture for its dual role as both a nutrient source and a plant protector. Unlike traditional phosphates, potassium phosphite provides phosphorus in a more readily absorbable form, enhancing its efficiency in disease control and plant nutrition. It provides both curative and preventative action. Effects can often be seen within a few days of application, with noticeable improvements in plant health and reduction in disease symptoms. Provides both immediate and long-term benefits, depending on application frequency and environmental conditions.
How does it work?
Potassium phosphite is absorbed quickly by plants and translocated throughout their tissues. Once inside the plant, it noosts the plant's natural defenses against pathogens. Acts directly on the pathogen by inhibiting its ability to grow and reproduce. Provides essential nutrients, particularly phosphorus and potassium, which are vital for healthy plant growth and development.
