MSMA

Type: Herbicide

Mode of Action: Contact Herbicide that interferes with photosynthesis and other essential processes

Common Product Names: MSMA 6 Plus & Target 6 Plus

What is it?

MSMA (Monosodium Methyl Arsonate) is a herbicide primarily used for controlling weeds in turf, cotton, and certain other agricultural applications. It is specifically effective against grassy and broadleaf weeds. MSMA is a selective, post-emergent herbicide that is used to control various types of weeds, including crabgrass, dallisgrass, and other troublesome weeds. It is an arsenical herbicide, which means it contains organic arsenic.

How does it work?

MSMA is absorbed through the foliage of the weeds and interferes with their growth processes. It targets the photosynthesis mechanism, disrupting the production of necessary sugars and leading to the plant's death. This herbicide is most effective when applied to actively growing weeds in warm weather, typically showing results within a few days to a couple of weeks.

Benefits

  • Post-Emergent Application: It targets weeds that are already growing, making it ideal for visible weed problems.
  • Selective Herbicide: MSMA is designed to kill specific weeds without harming desired plants when used correctly.
  • Fast Results: Visible effects can be seen within days, with full results typically within two weeks.
