Mefenoxam
Type: Fungicide
Mode of Action: Inhibiting RNA polymerase activity in the fungal cells
Common Product Names: Ridomil Gold & Ultra Flourish
What is it?
Mefenoxam is a systemic fungicide belonging to the phenylamide class of chemicals. It is widely used in agricultural and horticultural settings to manage diseases caused by Oomycetes fungi, such as Pythium, Phytophthora, and downy mildew. Its systemic nature allows it to be absorbed and translocated within the plant, providing protective and curative action against a wide range of soil and foliar pathogens.
How does it work?
Mefenoxam targets the ribonucleic acid (RNA) polymerase in fungal cells, specifically inhibiting their ability to produce RNA. This inhibition disrupts the normal functioning of the fungal cells, stopping their growth and preventing the synthesis of essential proteins. As a result, the fungal cells die, and the spread of the disease is controlled.
