Halauxifen-methyl

Type: Herbicide

Mode of Action: Disrupts plant cell growth by mimicking the plant hormone auxin

Common Product Names: Elevore & Quelex

What is it?

Halauxifen-methyl is a modern broadleaf herbicide used primarily in agricultural settings. Halauxifen-methyl is a post emergent selective herbicide. It belongs to the synthetic auxin class of herbicides and is valued for its effectiveness in controlling tough broadleaf weeds, including those resistant to other herbicides.  This active ingredient is known for its low use rates and favorable environmental profile, making it a preferred choice for sustainable weed management practices.

How does it work?

Halauxifen-methyl works by mimicking the natural plant hormone auxin, which regulates plant growth. When applied, it is absorbed by the plant and binds to specific receptors, causing an overaccumulation of auxin. This leads to abnormal and uncontrolled growth, disrupting essential cellular processes. The affected weeds exhibit symptoms such as twisted stems and leaves, stunted growth, and ultimately die off.

Benefits

  • Post-emergent Control: Effective against weeds that have already emerged.
  • Fast Results: Visible effects on weeds are typically seen within a few days of application.
  • Low Use Rates: Requires lower application rates compared to many other herbicides.
