What is it?

Glufosinate is a broad-spectrum post emergent herbicide that is effective against a wide range of weeds. It is derived from a naturally occurring compound produced by certain strains of Streptomyces soil bacteria. The herbicide is particularly valued in agricultural settings for its effectiveness in controlling weeds that are resistant to other herbicides, such as glyphosate-resistant species. Results typically show within a week.

How does it work?

Once applied to the foliage of weeds, glufosinate is absorbed and translocated within the plant. It disrupts the plant's ability to synthesize proteins and detoxify ammonia, leading to rapid cellular damage and plant death. The visible effects of glufosinate application, such as wilting and chlorosis (yellowing of leaves), can usually be seen within a few days.
