Fluthiacet-methyl

Type: Herbicide

Mode of Action: Inhibiting the enzyme protoporphyrinogen oxidase (PPO)

Common Product Names: Anthem Maxx & Cadet

What is it?

Fluthiacet-methyl is a highly effective post-emergent herbicide used to manage a wide range of broadleaf weeds. This herbicide is particularly useful in crops such as corn, soybeans, and cotton. It is favored for its quick action and ability to control weeds that have already emerged, allowing farmers to maintain cleaner fields and promote better crop yields.

How does it work?

Upon application, fluthiacet-methyl is absorbed by the leaves of the target weeds. It inhibits the PPO enzyme, disrupting the chlorophyll biosynthesis pathway. This leads to the accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), causing rapid cell membrane damage and the subsequent death of the weed. Results are typically seen within a few hours to a couple of days after application, making it a fast-acting solution for weed control.

Benefits

  • Post-emergent control: Effective against weeds that have already emerged, providing flexibility in application timing.
  • Fast action: Visible results can be observed within hours to days, allowing for quick assessment of effectiveness.
  • Selective: Safe for use on major crops like corn, soybeans, and cotton without causing harm to the crops.
