Flazasulfuron

Type: Herbicide

Mode of Action: Inhibiting the enzyme acetolactate synthase (ALS)

Common Product Names: Mission

What is it?

Flazasulfuron is a selective, systemic herbicide that is absorbed by the foliage and roots of plants. It is mainly used in non-crop areas, turf management, and vineyards. The herbicide is effective in controlling both pre-emergent and post-emergent weeds, providing flexibility in application. It has a relatively low use rate, meaning only small quantities are needed to achieve effective weed control, making it an environmentally conscious choice. The effects of the herbicide are typically seen within a few days to a week after application, with full control achieved within 2 to 4 weeks, depending on environmental conditions and the weed species targeted.

How does it work?

Once applied, Flazasulfuron is absorbed by the weed’s foliage and roots. It is then translocated throughout the plant, where it inhibits the enzyme acetolactate synthase (ALS). This inhibition disrupts the production of essential amino acids, which are necessary for the synthesis of proteins vital for the weed's growth. As a result, the plant's growth is stunted, leading to yellowing, wilting, and eventually death.

Benefits

  • Selective action: Targets weeds without harming desirable plants.
  • Low use rate: Requires only small amounts for effective control, reducing environmental impact.
  • Systemic activity: Absorbed and translocated throughout the plant for complete control.
