Esfenvalerate
Type: Insecticide
Mode of Action: Disrupts the nervous system / Disrupt Sodium Channels
Common Product Names: Conquer & Onslaught FastCap
What is it?
Esfenvalerate is a highly effective synthetic pyrethroid insecticide known for its broad-spectrum activity against a wide variety of insect pests. It is typically applied to crops such as cotton, vegetables, and fruits. Esfenvalerate is favored for its ability to provide fast knockdown effects, meaning that the insect population begins to decline rapidly after application. It is also known for its residual activity, which can provide extended protection over a period of time. Esfenvalerate is categorized as a residual insecticide, meaning it continues to provide pest control for a certain period after application. The residual effect can last from several days to weeks, depending on environmental conditions and application rates.
How does it work?
Once applied, esfenvalerate comes into contact with insects either through direct spray or by residual contact with treated surfaces. Upon contact, the insecticide quickly penetrates the insect's cuticle and starts affecting the nervous system. The disrupted sodium channels cause uncontrolled nerve firing, leading to convulsions, paralysis, and eventually death. Due to its fast-acting nature, the results are typically seen within a few hours after application.
