Emamectin Benzoate
Type: Insecticide
Mode of Action: Disruption of the nervous system / Disrupts glutamate-gated chloride channels
Common Product Names: TREEAge G4
What is it?
Emamectin Benzoate is a semi-synthetic derivative of avermectin, a naturally occurring substance produced by the soil bacterium Streptomyces avermitilis. It is widely recognized for its potent activity against a broad spectrum of lepidopteran pests (caterpillars and moth larvae) and other harmful insects. This active ingredient is particularly valued in integrated pest management (IPM) programs due to its effectiveness at low application rates and its low impact on beneficial insects and non-target organisms.
How does it work?
Once applied, Emamectin Benzoate is ingested by insects as they feed on treated plant material. The compound rapidly affects the insects' nervous systems, causing irreversible paralysis. The pests stop feeding almost immediately after exposure, and death typically occurs within 2-4 days. Emamectin Benzoate is classified as a residual insecticide, meaning it continues to protect crops for several days or weeks, depending on environmental conditions and pest pressure.
