What is it?

Copper hydroxide is a blue-green, crystalline solid that is insoluble in water but readily dissolves in acidic environments. It is often used in a wettable powder or liquid form to be applied as a spray. As a fungicide, copper hydroxide is effective against a wide range of fungal diseases, including downy mildew, powdery mildew, leaf spots, blights, and cankers. It is commonly used in the cultivation of fruit trees, vegetables, ornamentals, and some field crops. Copper hydroxide is primarily a preventative fungicide, meaning it is most effective when applied before the onset of disease or at the first signs of infection. This preemptive application helps protect plants by creating a barrier against fungal spores. The residual activity of copper hydroxide can last several days to a few weeks, depending on environmental conditions such as rainfall and humidity.

How does it work?

When applied to plant surfaces, copper hydroxide particles adhere to the plant tissues. Upon contact with moisture, copper ions are released and taken up by fungal or bacterial cells. The released copper ions interfere with essential enzymes and proteins within these cells, leading to the disruption of cellular functions and ultimately the death of the pathogen.
