24-D DEA
Type: Herbicide
Mode of Action: Mimics the plant hormone Auxin
Common Product Names: Hi-Dep
What is it?
2,4-D DEA is a dimethylamine salt of 2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid, making it water-soluble and easy to apply. It is a selective herbicide, meaning it targets broadleaf weeds without harming grasses. This selectivity is particularly beneficial in environments like cereal crops, lawns, and pastures, where maintaining the health of grasses is crucial.
How does it work?
When applied to a target area, 2,4-D DEA is absorbed by the leaves and stems of broadleaf weeds. The chemical then mimics the action of natural plant hormones, leading to rapid and uncontrolled cell division and growth. This causes the plant's vascular system to collapse, leading to wilting and eventual death. Visible effects, such as wilting and yellowing of weeds, can typically be seen within 48 hours after application. Complete control may take up to 14 days, depending on the weed species and environmental conditions. 2,4-D DEA is primarily a post-emergent herbicide, meaning it is most effective on weeds that have already emerged and are actively growing.
