24-D BEE

Type: Herbicide

Mode of Action: Mimics plant hormone Auxin

Common Product Names: Candor & Crossbow

What is it?

2,4-D BEE is a highly effective post-emergent herbicide designed to target and eliminate broadleaf weeds without harming grasses and other monocot plants. It is derived from the parent compound 2,4-D (2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid), which has been used for weed control for many decades. The ester formulation, specifically the butoxyethyl ester, enhances its ability to penetrate plant tissues, making it particularly effective in controlling tough weeds.

How does it work?

2,4-D BEE works by mimicking the natural plant hormone auxin. When applied to broadleaf weeds, it is absorbed through the leaves and translocated throughout the plant. The herbicide causes abnormal growth patterns, leading to the distortion of stems, leaves, and roots. This abnormal growth ultimately leads to the plant's death. Visible effects of 2,4-D BEE can usually be observed within a few days, with complete weed control typically achieved within 1-2 weeks, depending on the species and environmental conditions.

Benefits

  • Selective Herbicide: Controls broadleaf weeds while sparing grasses and other monocots, making it ideal for use in turf and pasture settings.
  • Fast-Acting: Visible effects are often seen within a few days, with full weed control achieved within a couple of weeks.
  • Versatile Use: Applicable in a wide range of environments, from agricultural fields to residential lawns and industrial areas.
  • Enhanced Penetration: The ester formulation allows for better penetration into tough, waxy leaves, improving overall effectiveness.
